These shows are designed for novice Strongman competitors with very little or no competitive experience. A Level One show will adhere to the following criteria: - Prize money is optional - Will have a minimum of 4 events - Should incorporate at least 3 of the following “classic” Strongman events:
Farmer’s Walk
Log Lift
Object Loading
Medley
These Strongman shows will be designed to help Strength Competitors gain experience, or return to competition post-injury, and compete for prize money. These shows will be intermediate in nature. A Level Two show will be heavier than a Level One show but will be lighter or less technical then a Level Three show. For instance; a 300 lb Farmer’s Hold could be a reasonable Level Two event, where a 300 lb Farmer’s Walk would be considered a Level Three event. It is recommended that Strength Athletes have some experience with Strongman equipment prior to competing in a Level Two show. This experience can be gained from Level One competition or from formal training sessions with a recognized Strength Athletics Association. All Level Two shows will be designated as open shows.
All Level Three shows will require that a Strength Athlete has previous experience, as these shows are the heaviest/hardest regional events (regional being the Provincial’s, Western’s, or Canadians). This experience will be at the discretion of the promoter, for example, a very strong, very talented competitor that has placed well at a Level One show may be admitted for entry to a Level Three show if the promoter deems that athletes’ participation safe. Level Three shows are intended to provide stiff competition and better prize money to experienced Strength Athletes. Level Three shows will be further designated as open or invitational. - - Open Level Three shows – Open to all experienced Strength Athletes from all regions and all Countries - - Invitational Level Three shows – Only Strength Athletes that have been invited by the promoter or that have qualified to compete (as per the criteria set forth by the promoter) will be permitted to compete. In most cases the athletes will be invited from the host region (Alberta/Western Canada)
Where a promoter decides to include weight classes in a Strongman show, at any level, the distinction between “light” and “heavy” weights should be made at 105 kilos (231lb). This 105 kg mark is in keeping with the national levels in both Canada and the United States. Although a distinction between weights of competitors has been made, there should be no distinction in the weights of the implements used; rather scoring of the weight classes should be done separately. This will provide the under 105 kg competitor an opportunity to mark his performance against the entire field as well as against other under 105 kg competitors. This will be useful for the athlete as fewer shows have weight classes and a lighter athlete should be able to see how he stacks up against all competitors.
